In light of the global COVID-19 pandemic situation, the Singapore International Violin Competition – originally scheduled to take place from 17-29 January 2021 – will be postponed by a year to 16-28 January 2022.
The new competition dates will be as follows, and application details will be announced in due course.
First Rounds: 16-20 January 2022
Semi-Finals: 22-23 January 2022
Finals: 25-26 January 2022 (Victoria Concert Hall)
Grand Finals: 28 January 2022 (Esplanade Concert Hall with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra)
In line with the original eligibility criteria, the 2022 competition will continue to be open to violinists of all nationalities born after 31 December 1990. Candidates who had already submitted applications may update their materials.
The Singapore International Violin Competition is preceded by a pre-selection round through blind-listening of the submitted recordings. This process is audited independently and the decision of the jury is final. The video dimension of the recording is only to ensure the authenticity of the submission.
Applications for the 2021 edition will open on 30 March 2020.
The triennial Singapore International Violin Competition serves to promote the continued growth and strength of classical music in the region, as well as providing a showcase for young violinists from around the world against the backdrop of Singapore’s world-class performance venues, its national orchestra and its internationally renowned music conservatory.
