Queen Sonja International Music Competition 2021
The Queen Sonja International Music Competition is a prestigious competition, held in Oslo every two years, for singers from around the world. The competition is a platform for providing career opportunities for young singers and acts as a stepping-stone to the professional music world for young artists. It also acts as a bridge builder between the Norwegian and international music scenes.
The competition’s institutional partners are theNorwegian National Opera & Ballet, the Norwegian Academy of Music, the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation and The Royal Court.
Singers of all nationalities may apply to take part in the Queen Sonja International Music Competition. The upper age limit is 32 years. Several participants for each competition are also nominated by the competition’s collaborating opera academies. Through several rounds, a jury consisting of internationally renowned opera directors, singers and casting associates from some of the world’s top opera houses judge the participants’ efforts. Each competition culminates in a grand final concert and prize-giving ceremony with H.M. Queen Sonja.
The next competition will take place from 13 to 20 August 2021. The preliminary rounds will be held digitally in June 2021.
The application window for the Queen Sonja International Music Competition 2021 will open 1 February 2021.
