The XXII International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition Leipzig 2020 has been cancelled.
Young musicians numbering 222, from 36 countries, had applied to take part. In the pre-selection rounds, a total of 114 of the candidates were admitted to the competition. All the candidates have been preparing for the competition for months, rehearsing the programmes required for the individual rounds. We are devastated and disappointed that this year we will not to be able to offer a magnificent and inspiring backdrop against which these talented musicians can meet.
We are now making every effort to have the competition rescheduled to take place in summer 2021. The admission of the participants pre-selected this year will remain valid until then. We very much hope that the competition can be rescheduled and will provide more information here as soon as possible.
