The Tromp International Percussion Competition 2024 invites talented percussionists around the world to apply for the competition, not just to compete for trophies but to meet as colleagues. The TROMP competition is praised by participants for the relaxed atmosphere in which close friendships and special collaborations are forged.
Investing in the future careers of the winners, TROMP provides various concert engagements in internationally acclaimed concert halls and festivals, both solo and with prestigious international ensembles. Among the laureates of TROMP are renowned musicians like Claire Edwardes (Australia), Kai Strobel (Germany) and Agostinho Sequeira (Portugal). All winners have proven to be excellent musicians, with emerging careers.
In the 1st Round of the TROMP International Percussion Competition the selected participants each give a performance of max. 20 minutes. The individual programmes consist of one selected work from the required repertoire for set-up and a work for vibraphone of one’s own choice.
After performing in the first round, all candidates will continue to the Second Round. In this round the participants also compete for the Willem Vos Award for the best rendition of a composition for marimba solo by a composer from The Netherlands.
In the Semi Finals the remaing participants compete for a spot in the Finale of TROMP 2024. Each participant compiles a programme for a recital for solo percussion. The individual programmes must consist of:
Participants who reach the finale will perform a programme consisting of a new compulsary work for solo percussion and chamber orchestra, by a yet to be determined composer. Furthermore, finalists will perform a work for percussion solo of one’s own choice.
