ATLANTA, GA, USA – The Elizabeth B. Stephens International Organ Competition (EBSIOC) will hold the second bi-annual competition June 17, 18, and 19, 2024, at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. First prize for the competition is $12,000, with second prize set at $6,000 and third at $3,000.
The competition is open to any organist 32 years and younger as of June 17, 2024. Applications for the competition open on January 8, 2024, and close on February 9, 2024. Competitors will submit a recording to the competition consisting of their best performance of J.S. Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in G, BWV 541, and Herbert Howells Psalm Prelude, Set 2 No. 1. Due to the overwhelming number of applications in 2022, the 2024 Recorded Round will be limited to the first 80 complete submissions.
The Elizabeth B. Stephens International Organ Competition has gathered a number of esteemed organists and musicians as adjudicators for the 2024 competition, with David Briggs serving once again as Chair of Adjudicators. Recorded Round submissions will be judged anonymously by Briggs along with Dr. Oliver Brett, Associate Organist and Choirmaster, PRUMC, and Chelsea Chen, concert organist and composer.
Candidates will be notified of the result of the recorded round on Monday, March 18, 2024. The judges will choose six organists to continue through to the Final Round, and all acceptable travel expenses will be provided by the competition.
