DESCRIPTION:WOMEX 24 – Manchester\, UK\, 23 – 27 October 2024 \nWOMEX – Worldwide Music Expo – is the most international and culturally diverse music meeting in the world and the biggest conference of the global music scene\, featuring a trade fair\, talks\, films and showcase concerts. \nOver 2\,600 professionals (including 260 performing artists) come together every October from 90 countries\, making WOMEX the leading networking platform for the world music industry. Its musical spectrum is unparalleled in the international showcase performance market\, ranging from the most traditional to the new global local underground\, embracing folk\, roots\, jazz\, local and diaspora cultures as much as urban and electronic sounds from all over the globe. \nWOMEX 2024 hosts 7 stages\, around 700 exhibiting companies\, 100+ speakers\, films\, an opening concert and an award ceremony across five packed networking days and rather short nights. \nWOMEX and its community aim to support and strengthen the role of culture around the globe and to spread its values through nurturing and promoting creativity and music. SUMMARY:RNCM James Mottram International Piano Competition 2023
DESCRIPTION:The eighth RNCM James Mottram International Piano Competition (JMIPC) 2023 will take place at the Royal Northern College of Music\, Manchester\, UK from Monday 27 November – Saturday 2 December 2023. \n  \nThis major biennial event offers an all-round learning experience for young pianists under 30 from all over the world. \nAll participants will receive invaluable learning opportunities: those who do not progress to the next stage of the competition will be given the opportunity to take part in a public masterclass given by a jury member during their time in Manchester. \n  \nApplying as a participant \nApplications for the 2023 James Mottram International Piano Competition 2023 are now open. Alternatively\, you can apply by clicking the following link: \nApply for the 2023 James Mottram International Piano Competition.  \n  \nWho was James Mottram? \nThe RNCM James Mottram International Piano Competition was inaugurated in 2008 thanks to a generous bequest from the late James Mottram. James Mottram was born in March 1930 in Stockport\, Cheshire and studied Psychology at the University of Oxford. In 1961\, he took up the post of lecturer in the School of Politics and Contemporary History at Salford University\, before taking early retirement in 1982. \nJames Mottram was a keen piano enthusiast\, and particularly enjoyed the works of Scarlatti\, Chopin and Debussy. It was his lifetime ambition to see an international piano competition staged in Manchester to celebrate the music of his favourite composers\, and to provide a platform for the next generation of talented pianists.
