Sendai International Music Competition 2022
The Sendai International Music Competition was established by the City of Sendai in 2001 and is held every three years. The Competition aims to boost the careers of talented young musicians, thereby contributing to the promotion of music and international cultural exchange. The Competition has the unique aspect of focusing on concertos in the selection of its repertoire, is run according to strict rules of fairness and trustworthiness and designed to involve the support and warm hospitality of the local citizens. The Competition has been a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions since 2005.
Violin Section: Saturday, May 21, 2022 – Sunday, June 5, 2022
Piano Section: Saturday, June 11, 2022 – Sunday, June 26, 2022
The Sendai International Music Competition 2022 is open to candidates of all nationalities born on or after January 1, 1992.
The deadline for application is on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, 12 o’clock midnight (Japan time). In the case of submitting application materials by post, the application package must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, November 10, 2021.
The Sendai International Music Competition 2022 consists of Preliminary, Semifinal and Final Rounds. A Pre-Selection based on Video Data as well as on Application Documents will be held to decide which Applicants qualify for the Competition.
Sendai is also known as a “City of Music”, with the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sendai International Music Competition and the Sendai Classical Music Festival, as well as the Sendai Junior Orchestra, in which members of the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra become tutors, aiming at further developing musical culture in local communities. Furthermore, there are many grass-root, outdoor music festivals, such as the Jozenji Streetjazz Festival, illuminating the city with music throughout the year.
