Maria Canals International Piano Music Competition 2022

The 67th International Maria Canals Music Competition 2022 will take place in Barcelona between the 26th of March and the 7th of April.

The Grand finale of the Maria Canals Competition is the greatest piano event in Barcelona. Three finalists fight for the first prize in the concert hall of the Palau, performing essential works from the repertoire with the orchestra under the watchful eye of the jury and an enthusiastic audience. This Grand finale has been held since 1954, takes place in collaboration with the Fundació Banc Sabadell and is recorded by Catalunya Música, a public broadcaster.

The rounds of the Maria Canals Music Competition 2022, held at the Petit Palau, are a true spectacle for piano lovers. An aesthetic treat and experience, where you can plunge into the great piano repertoire. This year, the first round will take place between the 27th of March and the 29th of Marc, the second round between th 30th of March and the 1st of April, and the semi-final (with the 6 best contestants) on the 3rd of April. All sessions will be open to the public.

The Maria Canals International Piano Music Competition, founded in 1954, is the dean of music competitions in Spain and one of the first 10 in the world to be accepted by the World Federation of International Music Competitions, in 1958. Throughout its history, the Association has organised over 120 competitions including the piano, singing, violin, cello, guitar, flute, percussion and chamber music branches, with more than 8,000 contestants from more than a hundred different countries spread over the five continents, and the generous support of more than 200 musical personalities from around the world, who have been members of the jury.

The competition is held annually, in March, and is aimed at the young performers from around the world, aged between 18 and 30.

It is divided into four rounds that are held at the Palau de la Música Catalana, in Barcelona. The orchestra, in the final, will join the three contestants with a higher score.

€80,000 worth in prizes and more than 30 paid recitals and concerts with orchestra around the world are offered.

Since 1954, the final of the Maria Canals International Piano Music Competition has been held, every year, at the concert hall of the Palau de la Música Catalana.
