International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition 2022
The 16th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition is postponed to 2022 due to COVID-19.
Considering the coronavirus-pandemic-related decision of National Fryderyk Chopin Institute and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage to move the 2020 edition of International Chopin Piano Competition to 2021, the Board of the Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society of Poznań informs that it has begun consultations with its partners over postponing the 16th edition of the Competition from October 2021 to 2022.
In our opinion, the organisation of the two largest international music competitions within a very short period of time should be highly inadvisable from the point of view of music-lovers’ interests.
The revised dates are 7-21 October 2022.
The Application deadline for the 16th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition is November 15, 2021.
The Competition is open to violin players of all nationalities born between 1991 and 2006.
The goal of preliminary selection process is to select 40-45 candidates to be admitted to Stage One of the competition. Candidates shall be qualified for the competition subject to submission of relevant documents and a recording of the programme indicated by the organisers, which shall be judged by Preliminary Selection Jury headed by the Chairman of the Competition Jury, Augustin Dumay.
Henryk Wieniawski occupies a special place in the history of world violin music. A genius virtuoso-violinist, he was, above all, considered by contemporary critics and music lovers alike a reincarnation of Niccolò Paganini. A composer, whose works have withstood the test of time, to take a prominent place in world violin literature and in the repertories of most eminent artists. An educator at two outstanding European schools of music. Finally, a fascinating individual of colourful personality.
