Gilmore Piano Festival 2022

Highlights of the 15th biennial Gilmore Piano Festival 2022 include the return of 2018 Gilmore Artist Igor Levit; an opening night of jazz with 14-time Grammy Award-winner Herbie Hancock; a duo program by sibling musicians Isata (piano) and Sheku (cello) Kanneh-Mason; world premieres of Gilmore commissions from Matthew Aucoin, Tyshawn Sorey, and Andrius Žlabys; and educational offerings as part of a new career-advancement initiative, The Gilmore Festival Fellows residency program. The festival’s diverse performance schedule is complemented by an extensive series of master classes, pre-concert talks, film screenings, and lectures, as well as an interactive, public art installation.

The Gilmore Piano Festival 2022 celebrates the piano in all its variety and depth: including jazz, classical, pop, folk, swing, blues, gospel and everything in between. At the next Festival you’ll encounter the piano as a solo instrument, with orchestras, in trios and duos, in bands and ensembles, and even in digitized form. And because this is a festival, we are happy to present more than concerts. You’ll find pre-concert talks, films, a theater performance, lectures, master classes, evening social events, family events, and so much more.

The Gilmore Piano Festival has featured stars who range from classical artists like Van Cliburn, Krystian Zimerman, and Mitsuko Uchida, to jazz and pop artists like Diana Krall, Tony Bennett, John Legend, and Brad Mehldau. For three weeks next Spring you can hear world-class pianists from across the globe in Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, and venues around West Michigan.

The mission of The Gilmore is to promote and develop world-class pianistic experiences that inspire present and future artists and audiences. We do this by:

  • Identifying exceptional pianists through a non-competitive process and then providing significant support to enhance their careers
  • Presenting world-class music festivals featuring the finest international pianists
  • Providing an outstanding keyboard educational program
  • Supporting the creation of piano music
