The International Chamber Music Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” (FS&MM) was established by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in 1989. Since then, every three years Graz becomes a hub for young ensembles from all over the world and a multi-day festival of chamber music to its audience, with free admission.
Right from the start, it was about bringing Schubert’s chamber music into relation with both new and the latest works for the corresponding lineup. With around € 100,000 prize money, the FS&MM is one of the highest-paying music competitions worldwide. Furthermore, with the composition competitions as well as commissioned works the expansion of the chamber music repertoire gets actively promoted.
The International Chamber Music Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” (FS&MM) is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions and the Alink Argerich Foundation.
